When the House Sounds Like Home Again

It's been an adjustment having our daughter back at home from her year-long adventure in Orlando. She's used to the way things were, while we've obviously had to do things very differently. Take mowing the lawn. Once a "boy's job", it's become the job of whoever is available. We just don't have the luxury of saying "not me!" anymore. If we wait for someone else to do it, it will never get done which is just not acceptable.
And to be fair, it's a big adjustment for her too. Going from solely responsible for herself to being part of a family and having to do for others is an adjustment. Luckily, my daughter is very adaptable and we all just laugh... sometimes at her when she stares at the lawnmower in disbelief that it's now a "girl chore".
But one huge benefit has been for my person. The other half of the "peanut gallery" duo. I'm sure in every family, two people always naturally side together. In this case, my daughter and person are the pair up.
As I was working the other day, I hear nonstop chatter. Marvel, movies, Disney, a reel on facebook... and it was the sounds of happiness. For me it was the entertainment factor while I worked. I didn't feel like I was isolating my person from human companionship. For him, it was someone else to banter with.
It was a sense of.... normal. And isn't that little bit of normal what we all strive for? In this role, I always worry that because my person just can't get up and go, I'm the source of entertainment. Which isn't a problem most days. But last week, I was on a major deadline so my brain power was on low power mode. I was grateful for the extra companionship.
Adjusting and adapting. That's what we do here.
Until next time...
